Hemroids Relief, Where Are You?

I’ve written a number of pieces about common medical conditions and how to treat them, but nothing I’d read prepared me for the experience of having hemroids. Let me tell you, this is not my idea of fun. Sure, the word is funny and I had more than one cashier smirk when ringing through the tube of Preparation H that I’d casually hidden amongst the shaving cream, soap and shampoo bottles, but I have to tell you: when you’ve got piles, you’re short on smiles. Not fun, whatsoever. When I was a kid, I ran through a patch of poison ivy and, unpleasant as that was, it was nothing compared to this. After two weeks, I was prepared to give away my new car to anyone who could provide me with hemroids relief.

Hemorrhoids: What Are They, Why Do They Happen And How Do I Get Rid Of Them?

No one likes to talk about hemorrhoids and I suppose I don’t blame them. They aren’t pleasant to look at and they’re a pain to deal with. I’ve always had an interest in chronic or recurring medical issues and I’ve spent several years compiling detailed information about this particularly aggravating condition. While many people are embarrassed to admit that they suffer from hemorrhoids, they should take some comfort in the fact that they aren’t alone. Humans have suffered from the irritation of “piles” as far back as recorded history and a majority of people will have to endure a bout at some time in their lives, especially once they are past fifty. There is also some comfort to be taken in knowing that, for the most part, they are simply a nuisance and not particularly dangerous; bleeding hemorrhoids should be examined by a doctor immediately, but for the most part, itching and discomfort are the worst one can expect.

Hemorrhoids are one of those medical topics that cause people to involuntarily cringe when mentioned. There’s no way around it: the condition is irritating, often painful, embarrassing and sometimes it can even be dangerous. Pharmaceutical companies spend millions of dollars every year in promoting their name brand remedies, but with in excess of one hundred different ointments and creams being sold every day in drugstores, which in this crowded market the most effective in providing relief? Consumer Health Reports tested every hemorrhoid treatment they could find and picked a clear winner in relieving symptoms while helping sufferers to recover. Perhaps surprisingly, the winner (for the third straight year) is not one of the nationally advertised medications.

Bleeding Hemorrhoids Should Never Be Ignored

Most of us know that when we experience painful and recurring afflictions, we should see a doctor. For the most part, that’s not an issue. We dutifully make an appointment to have our physician look at that sore knee, annoying skin rash or case of athlete’s foot that just won’t go away. But when it comes to hemorrhoids, people are suddenly reluctant. They’re embarrassing, we don’t want a doctor poking around down there, we don’t want to tell the receptionist why we need an appointment -we don’t even want to say the word out loud. Get over it. Sooner or later, almost everyone is going to get them and they’re not a symptom of being dirty or doing something wrong. Talk to your doctor, especially in the case of bleeding hemorrhoids, which can be more complicated to deal with and might not be hemorrhoids at all, but something more serious.
